Thomas Michahelles, LMFT 23074

Like many other adults, I was raised by emotionally immature parents. I arrived at being a therapist because of what happened before and after I was born. My struggle to understand and make sense of and optimally live with and beyond those adverse experiences has taken me on a journey which continues to surprise and contribute to a wondrous fulfilled sense of purpose.
I earned an MA in Counseling Psychology from Golden Gate University, a BA in Psychology with emphasis in Arts & Social Change from the New College of California, and a certificate in Substance Use and Alcohol Counseling from San Francisco City College.
My approach to psychotherapy is humanistic, eclectic, existential and psychodynamic, drawing from among others; Freudian, Lacanian, and Ericksonian traditions.
I’m further informed by the intersections of nature, spirit, and technology as potentials to leverage our inner resources and capacity to adapt to the ever-changing landscape of our situations. I have experience with individuals, couples and groups, of all ages.
For individuals seeking assistance with gender-related concerns, I am firmly against and will not participate in or condone any methods linked to conversion therapy.
My approach is rooted in the principles of therapeutic neutrality. I strive to provide all clients with a compassionate, supportive environment to explore with empathy and understanding.
