Maya Carlson
Associate Marriage and Family Therapist #145653
Anna Howland, LMFT #99026

Hello, I'm Maya, an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist practicing online and in person on the Ohlone land of Huichin, currently known as Berkeley, CA. This world is a wild one and I love walking with others in the wilderness of their unique experience.
My approach to therapy is dynamic and relational, balancing deep inquiry with spacious presence to see what emerges from many forms of knowing. Decades of navigating chronic pain led me to therapies that center our present-moment experience as integral to hearing what aspects of ourselves need attention. This being-with our experience can be painful at times, but it can also crack open a whole lotta goodness. I see therapy as a practice of uncovering and exploring together, over time inviting in more felt moments of aliveness, self-knowing and belonging in a world that so often keeps us out of sync with ourselves and each other. I'm here to accompany you in your deepest questions, not-knowings and cycles of change.
You can expect me to:
~ Follow you in your present-moment experience, at your own pace.
~ Collaborate with you to find a rhythm of being that feels true to you through curiosity, experimentation and reverence for all the multitudes you hold.
~ Offer direct questions and warm reflection.
~ Show up to build trust through an authentic connection.
As someone who grew up moving every few years, I often consider how notions of home, (un)belonging, culture and structures of power impact how we experience the world. My practice is non-pathologizing, weaving together embodiment, connection, ecosystemic thinking, and a devotion to collective liberation. I am an LGBTQ+, poly, kink, sex work and gender queer-affirming therapist with personal and professional experience with these communities.
Feel free to reach out for a brief phone consultation if you're curious to feel out if we'd work well together.
