1. LatinX Therapy
LatinX Therapy is a bilingual podcast with episodes in Spanish every other week. Host Adriana Alejandre is an LMFT who wants to “demystify myths and diagnoses” for LatinX individuals. To that end, she speaks with a variety of mental health professionals and professionals in other related fields to address a variety of different “cultural and commonly stigmatized themes.” We love how dedicated this podcast is to breaking the stigma.
2. The Mindful Muslim Podcast
Every culture has different approaches to discussing mental health within the context of a belief system. The Mindful Muslim podcast shares “conversations on mental health, psychology, Islam and spirituality.” Recent topics include “healing and inner work in Islam,” “Racism, Colourism, and the Muslim Identity,” and “Suicide in Muslim Communities.”
3. Brobriety
This is a niche podcast about the relationship between masculinity and substance use, including conversations with experts on mental health, wellness, and other related topics. In particular, we love the episodes that discuss how substance use relates to common mental health conditions such as depression, providing food for thought on how to work through those challenges.
4. Mental Health Hope and Recovery
The two women who lead this podcast both have personal experience in working through chronic severe mental health challenges. They bring this experience to the table with authentic conversations about varied diagnoses as well as treatment options. 5. Imani State of Mind
You might know Dr. Imani Walker from television. She’s a psychiatrist who co-hosts this podcast with a comedian to bring lightness and levity to “sharing their personal and professional experiences to help navigate and normalize conversations about mental health.”
6. In Recovery with Dr. Nzinga Harrison
“Dr. Harrison is the Chief Medical Officer and Co-Founder of Eleanor Health, who believes in a comprehensive, compassionate approach to treating addiction.” This podcast offers a complete picture to the issues and treatment options associated with recovery for life.
7. Into The Fold
The Hogg Foundation for Mental Health in Texas hosts this podcast. It includes interviews with a variety of experts about mental health and wellness, from Texas as well as nationwide. 8. Oprah’s Super Soul Sunday
Oprah interviews a diverse array of different thought leaders about many different topics including spirituality and wellness. This is a very inspirational podcast!
9. Happier with Gretchen Rubin
Gretchen Rubin, author of The Happiness Project, researches happiness, habits, and other aspects of positive mental health. She co-hosts this podcast with her sister and they talk about many different ways to boost your happiness. The podcast has grown to include weekly episodes of More Happier and short weekly bursts of A Little Bit Happier to brighten your days throughout the week.
10. Jane Goodall’s Hopecast
Jane Goodall is an inspirational speaker who hangs on to hope despite a lifetime of seeing challenging things in the world around us. The Hopecast helps listeners have hope as well. She speaks to a variety of thought leaders about the topic on this podcast.
11. We Can Do Hard Things with Glennon Doyle
Glennon Doyle is the author of “Untamed,” a book inspiring people, especially women, to live from their most authentic inner selves. This podcast expands upon that book. She, along with her wife and sister, speaks on the podcast about handling all of the hard things that make up a human life.
12. Therapy for Black Girls
This is a podcast from Dr. Joy Harden Bradford, a licensed psychologis whose “work focuses on making mental health topics more relevant and accessible for Black women.” She applies pop culture to mental health topics to keep things interesting, relevant, and accessible. Recent topics have included “Blending families for the holidays,” “criminalization of black youth,” and “grounding yourself for a new year.”
13. Where Should We Begin with Esther Perel
Relationship therapist Esther Perel shares her insights in this podcast. We get to listen as she speaks to real couples the way she really speaks to them in the therapy room. This gives us a glimpse into the therapeutic process, along with important information about navigating relationship challenges. 14. Small Things Often
The Gottman Institute is another leader in relationship counseling. This podcast provides quick tips for all of the small things that you can do to improve your romantic relationship.
15. The Psychology Sisters
A psychologist and a psychotherapist are committed to destigmatizing conversation around mental health. Recent topics have included self-awareness, stuckness, vulnerability, and chronic illness.
16. The Positive Psychology Podcast
This podcast is all about how to live a good life. It has a scientific basis that’s provided in an accessible format. Recent topics have included body image and the power of ritual. This isn’t a frequently-aired podcast. However, there’s a good body of episodes to listen to in the back catalog.
17. All in the Mind with Sana Qadar
As described on the website,”All in the Mind is an exploration of the mental: the mind, brain and behaviour — everything from addiction to artificial intelligence.” Recent topics include autism history, why we laugh, and “the vicious cycle of alcohol and anxiety.”
18. The Psychology Podcast with Scott Barry Kaufman
This is one of those mental health and wellness podcasts that interviews people about the brain. It’s designed to give you increased insight into yourself and human behavior in order to live a better life.
19. Take Out Therapy
Quick twenty minute episodes from a social worker providing self-help tips for stress reduction, life balance, and other common issues.
20. The SelfWork Podcast
This podcast is more than five years old. Dr. Margaret Rutherford’s goal is to explain mental health treatment and to demystify therapy. Examples of recent topics include “Five Steps To Build Your Social Muscle and Tackle Self-Consciousness and Social Anxiety” and “When Families Are Fractured: Estrangement and Parental Alienation.”
