Karen Baker
LMFT #136793
Hi there, I'm Karen.
You probably found me because you’re looking for something beyond traditional talk therapy. Maybe you’re functioning well, but struggling with some aspect of your life: relationships, stress, anxiety, depression, past trauma, family wounding, or life purpose. Or, maybe you’re not functioning well and traditional therapy has failed to help. Your story and the places that you get stuck are unique, and I like to learn them.
Therapy with me is a process of discovery and healing. Together we will explore your life through aspects of body, mind, spirit, community(s) and environment(s). Sometimes this will mean sitting and talking, other times it will mean moving, drawing, breathing, visualizing, and / or therapeutic touch. I don’t believe in a “one-size fits all" approach.
In my own personal journey, I have explored myself deeply through yoga, meditation, bodywork, psychotherapy, and non-ordinary states of consciousness. Prior to becoming a therapist, I worked with foster children in residential care facilities, adolescents in substance abuse facilities, and adult female-identified victims of domestic violence, as well as massage and yoga therapy. I am dedicated to my own continued exploration and growth, personally and professionally, which I view as an unending process.
As a culturally Jewish-American, CIS-gendered, heterosexual woman, I am keenly aware of intersectionality; privilege and marginalization. In our work, I invite open dialogue about issues related to race, gender, sexuality, and social status as these are so often considered taboo. While I may or may not have similar lived-experiences to you around these aspects of identity, I will hold curiosity for us to both deepen into a greater understanding of them.
