A Little About Me

When I sit with a client, either an individual or a couple, my primary objective is to fully see them and deeply understand their experience. Through that seeing and coming to know, healing begins. Many of us have never felt fully seen or understood by those who raised us or those we love. That absence, that ache, that yearning is often underneath the issues that bring clients to therapy.

My goal as a therapist is to collaboratively peel back the protective layers and gently reveal the wounds that drive the habits and self-defeating patterns we use to prevent ourselves from being hurt again. The behaviors that once protected us may now be preventing us from receiving love from others. Our beliefs about ourselves keep us rooted in shame, stuck in a world where we are unworthy of the things we want, including self-love. Wouldn't it be amazing to shed those negative self beliefs and develop ways of interacting with the world that created new opportunities for growth and relationships built on trust and acceptance? I want to help you find your path.

When working with individual clients I use a combination of Sensorimotor Psychotherapy (SP) and Internal Family Systems (IFS) techniques. I encourage the client to identify their somatic experiences as they pertain to the material we are working with and use the language of parts to help the client see their challenges as distinct from their true Self. Both SP and IFS are trauma-informed approaches and a non-pathologizing. As we state in IFS, "There are no bad parts." The human experience, beginning in childhood, is often painful and we often do not receive the love and acceptance we need. We compensate for unmet attachment needs through adaptive behaviors that soothed or protected us from pain. As adults those same behaviors may have become maladaptive. For example, we may have a harsh Inner Critic who berates us for mistakes or we may have an Unloved Child part who tells us we are damaged and unworthy of our partner's love.

All of my work is relational and attachment-based. The work we do together is framed by the qualities of our therapeutic relationship. Our relationship is built on trust and my unconditional acceptance of your value as a fellow human. My hope is that through our relationship prior attachment wounds can be identified and healed and those with insecure attachment styles can move closer to having secure functioning relationships.
